I am very interested in learning more about databases. I have a
moderately large datafile that currently resides in a proprietary dos
database. It is a dog pedigree database. The author of the data
management program died. I have learned enough about the structure of
the datafile to write a perl program that can access the data. However it
has been suggested to me that I would be better off using a modern
database to manage these records (46,000 of them at this time).
I can easily write a perl program to put them into csv format but I have
been unable to find a tutorial for MySQL or PostreSQL that tells me how
to import stuff into a one of these database programs and I am unwilling
to hand reenter all the records.
Any tips on this would be appreciated. I do know which fields are pointers
to other records.
