Upgrades are always more difficult? At this time, what state is your
system in? Partial upgrade, or did you wipe and do a fresh install?

When I did an upgrade, wireless stopped working for me as well -- until
I found a procedure that needed to be done.

Network manager is integrated in Feisty, whereas it was an addon to
Edgy. Thus, you might need to do a little cleanup (even if you had it
installed before).

Look in /etc/network/interfaces and check to make sure each line looks
like this:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

(and so on...)

You want to comment out *all* but the 'auto lo' section, for loopback.
Network manager will pick up the rest of your interfaces, and hopefully
the pcmcia wireless card you use as well. After you comment out the
rest of the interfaces, do a reboot, and you should have your networking
back.
