Yea. Ubuntu really prefers for you to use its own update-manager. A
distribution upgrade can be kicked off with "gksu update-manager -c".
(or add a -d to the command for the development release to be available)
Odds are your network problems were caused by Feisty's move to making
the GNOME NetworkManager manage all the network bits. There are some
knowledgable folks in the Ubunty forums would could probably help. Two
of my three edgy-to-feisty upgrades went without a hiccup, so I cannot
off-hand think of a solution to your network woes. (The third occured
on a box with flakey hardware, so I'm not inclined to blame Ubuntu for
its problems.)
