i looked in /etc/network/interface and uncommented the previously
commented out wlan0 and rebooted.

ifconfig still does not bring up info about the wireless card but lspci -v
does.

06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek semiconductor CO., Ltd RTL8180l
802.11b MAC(rev 20)

Subsystem Netgear Unknown Device 4700
Flags: Medium devsel, IRQ 10
I/O ports at 2400 [disabled] [size=256]
Memory at 3c000000 932 bit, non-prefetchable0 [disabled] [size=512]
Capabilities <access denied.

if I run ifup wlan0 i get a bunch of errors, the main one which is:

wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: no such device

(I am retyping this stuff to send mail from the desktop since the laptop
has no internet connection).

should I try making an entry for eth0 in /etcnetwork/interface?

this Netgear card desguised as a comcast card worked under Edgie
