After the problems on my desktop I figured out a relatively safe way to
downgrade my laptop back to Edgie from Feisty Fawn. I happened to have an
unused 4 gig logical partition so i made sure it was formatted as ext3 and
then I took a ubuntu edgie live cd and installed Edgie using the unused
partition as / and my old main partition as /home.
All went well and not only did my old netgear card make the wireless
connection but the new fancier SMC card has no problem with it which
should make it possible for my husband to ugrade the security on our local
wireless network.
So my question is - why was feisty unable to do the wireless since it is
supposed to be better at that?
I suppose I need to try the upgrade the "official" way rather than
respondign to the helpful button in the synaptic package manager.
Having wasted two days on this however I think I will wait to try the
experiment.
How was I to know that helpful "upgrade" button on synaptic was a button
to be avoided?
