[Novalug] Anyone using a Mvix MX-760HD

I have friend that had his 320GB My Book USB drive let out the magic smoke. We were able to pull out the hard drive and it appears to have suffered as the smart utilities and formating didn't show any issues with the drive. Looking around Newegg, they have the Mvix unit for $299 without hard drive. He was using the external drive mostly to store pictures and has in the past expressed interest in a media player so I thought this might be a good fit, but I am hoping someone that has the product will post their experience.
