[Novalug] Monitor cable modem and FIOS feeds, dispaly stats over time

Hi Friends,
   
  I will be having the luxury of cable modem and Verizon FIOS in my home.  I have heard praises and moans about both providers.  Is it possible to have one PC, that monitors both cable modem and Verison FIOS? 
   
  Theidea is to do 24x7 monitoring.  
   
  Can that be accomplished with an inexpensive switch?
   
  I probably would ping a bunch of websites and montor round trip times, and do performance graphs.  Is there Open Source software out there to acomplish that?
