[Novalug] Hardware question: question about usb hd format

I have a 160 gig ide harddrive which i had in a usb case.

As i recall I formatted it in the usb case after I purchased it.

When it is hooked up to the linux or amiga computer via usb there are 4 
partitions, 2 linux and two fat.

However when I took it out of the usb case and mounted it on the ide bus 
of my computer in order to use spirite on it, it comes up as having no 
parititions. I booted linux and had gparted look at it on the ide bus, no 
parititions. However when I replaced it in the usb case and used gparted 
to look at it the 4 partitions are there.

Can anyone enlighten me?
