The website www.newplat.com, a real estate search engine, just opened 
last week and is built entirely on open source software and open 
standards.  I just mention it because it demonstrates how open source 
can be effectively used in eCommerce, and how supporting the open source 
development community is a vital link in today's eCommerce industry.

In addition to making use of open source technology, the website 
incorporates cutting edge Internet based marketing using Google ads and 
YouTube video.  People visiting the website can watch useful videos 
related to construction, interior decoration, and real estate.  In 
addition, people who click on ads shown on the website generate revenue 
for the website, and in turn open source software development.

Open source software plays a pivotal role in the website's ability to 
exist.  To recognize this fact, the website's owner, Cognition Group, 
Incorporated, has decided to evenly divide a portion of the website's 
profits to all of the groups and individuals who put time into making 
the software that the website relies on.  The exact amount is not yet 
decided, but it's expected to be somewhere between 5% and 12% of the 
website's gross revenue.  These groups that participate in this program 
are listed below (the list may grow in the future).

In addition to that, Cognition Group is itself an open source software 
development firm, and the money it makes is typically put back into open 
source software development.

		PERL is the language that the website is written in.
	
	Embedded PERL

		Embedded PERL is a software module that allows the
		PERL language to be programmed within the context
		of an HTML web page.

	PostgreSQL
		www.postgresql.org
		PostgreSQL is an industrial strength SQL server that
		stores all of the application's data.

	OpenEMed
		www.openemed.net
		Identity management of the website's users, and
		associated data about the users are stored with
		OpenEMed.
