[Novalug] saving users

I'm about to go from F7 to F8 on my laptop (a T30
thinkpad). Other than staying online while one machine at
a time is out from behind the KVM switch, and thus monopolizing
my keyboard & monitor, its chief function is as a loaner to
houseguests.

So I have a whole slew of rare users, all of whom I keep
set to /sbin/nologin (as well as keeping the laptop shutdown, and
wireless access turned off), except individually at such times as
one or two are here.

All that is easy with the Fedora GUI for Users and
Groups, which seems to edit /usr/bin/system-config-users -- and
sure enough, there's the list.

So my question is this. If I simply copy that file onto a
CD, do a fresh install of F8, and then copy from the CD back into
/ -- or if not there, where? -- will that put all my nonce users
back? How about any configurations I've done of their sessions?

Somehow I've got a nasty sneakin' hunch it just ain't
gonna be so easy ...
