Tom,

One option that hasn't been discussed is setting up IPv6 on the "home"
and "mobile" machines.  The mobile machine can be set up to get the
same tunnel, generally, from the tunnel provider.  That, generally,
allows for end-to-end connectivity on any number of ports, even if you
get stuck behind NAT, while on the road.  Of course, that should be
used with other authentication methods (TLS, SSH keys, x.509, etc.),
in case your tunnel changes (the providers will usually give the
tunnel to other folks, if you go more than $time between bringing up
the tunnel.)

I've used this tunnel provider:
