I haven't tried such as setup, BUT I do have a few comments.
1) Why did they have to manually create the new user's home directory?
Even Samba (and/or swat) will use the underling /usr/sbin/adduser to
properly setup a new user account's home directory.
2) Why does the setup require the ROOT's password in plain text in a
configuration file, which I assume is World Readable?
Looks like a BIG Security hole to me.
3) There configuration file setup with it's multi entries in different
formats of the same info, looks like a problem waiting to happen to me.
|from sample samba.conf
| passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://gregzimbra1.zimbra.com/
| ldap suffix = dc=gregzimbra1,dc=zimbra,dc=com
|from sample /etc/libnss-ldap.conf
| base dc=gregzimbra1,dc=zimbra,dc=com
| host gregzimbra1.zimbra.com
If all the above hostname/uris and the REAL Hostname of the ldap server
don't all match you will have a connection failure of some sort to
debug, with little or no hint as to where it is.
