Watch out if you buy a widescreen monitor. The version of Ubuntu I have does not have support for widescreen monitors built in to the config, but it is easy to fix by editing the xorg.conf file. I have a Benq with 1440x900 resolution and looks great in Ubuntu.

I first bought an LCD monitor a couple years back -- some no-name brand. The picture was terrible and you could only view it from a 15 degree angle while hopping on one foot and rubbing your belly -- but it was flat, dag nabbit!

All I ever needed for that thing were the refresh rates. Are we getting so spoiled that we have to pick hardware out of a list now? ;)

What support do you need? Know the refresh rates and set it yourself
or take the 'generic' LCD, 19", whatever.
