Thanks for this suggestion.
RM >1. System/Administration/Users and Groups/User Privileges tab
This one has these checked (enabled) under storage
User privileges is available once one highlights a user and clicks on
properties.
The privileges that are checked when I opened this tool are:
Access external storage devices automatically
Administer the system
Connect to unternet using a modem
Monitor system logs
Use Audio devices
Use CD-Rom drives
Use floppy drives
use modems
use scanners
So it appears to me all the things are checked to allow me to access the
cdrom drive.
RM >2. System/Preferences/Removable Drives and Media
Mount removable drives when hot plugged.
Mount removable media when inserted
Browse removable media when inserted (aha now I know how to get rid of
this 'feature')
However I just ejected one of the CD's and then closed the drawer again
and the cd mounted and its browser displayed but the contents are still
belonging to root and I cannot open them from the file browser.
I do not usually use these and this mounting problem has been present
for the last 2 days since I did the feisty install. previously
with my other dapper/edgy install my cd drives, amiga file system and fat
partitions were mounted more or less correctly. i forgot to save the old
fstab somewhere safe when I reformatted the / partition when installing
feisty.
