I am happy with my 19" Samsung SyncMaster 915N; of course that model is 
gone, replace by later models). Linux looks GOOD on this monitor. (I 
have had problems if I accepted M$ offers to update drivers - maybe that 
was for a video board - a no-no: had to go back a driver to be able to 
avoid blue screens of death.)

It almost goes w/o saying: watch for sales - Office Despot beat Newegg 
and others. (Too bad Compusa is gone - I think they helped add to the 
competition.)
