[Novalug] xgl + compiz on Kubuntu

I got compiz working on Kubuntu.  The only hitch is that to
enable/disable/configure it, I have to use gnome-compiz-manager...
there is no KDE counterpart. Fine, but when that app auto-starts in
KDE, the side effect is that all the other auto-starting stuff that
would normally appear in the system tray (adept-update-notifier,
knetwork-manager, etc.) instead appears in small individual windows
all over my screen.  Anybody seen this and fixed it?
