Just remember, this is normal at AOL and other employers. 

I say that when I was a manager there, we used the annual review to
determine who was let go. 

I will also say that the layoffs didn't necessarily equate to less
employees-- meaning AOL would continue to hire in other areas. 

In my experience, layoffs were performance based at AOL. Of course
there are exceptions.
