[Novalug] AOL, anyone there?

I work in AOL's anti-spam operations' postmaster team. Standard disclaimers
apply as to me not talking officially for my employer, etc. Just my personal
opinions.

Let's be realistic: if they're moving HQ to NYC, there's a whole slew of
jobs that are going to have to move out there, too. I fully expect any cuts
that are coming will probably take the form of "move to NYC or get laid off"
- at least at first, anyways. I have NOT heard anything about any layoffs on
Tuesday, in any case. Some of my co-workers are fairly well connected, so I
feel as if I would have heard something about it if it had.

The technical/IT guys shouldn't have much to worry about - there's no
indication whatsoever that any of those jobs are going to NYC. I'd be a lot
more worried about layoffs due to us hemmoraghing dial-up subscribers
without generating the ad revenue to compensate for them. :)

Had lunch with a friend who works there last week... Rumor is that "major"
cuts are expected. I don't know what that means. I do know that it's no
fun being in an environment when you don't know who or how many jobs are
threatened.

fwiw, every august (well, for the 3 I was there) it was time to time
the staff 10%.
