[Novalug] Very OT - Water Softener Question

Hi,
My apology for a very off-topic post. But this is a list
where I suspect I'll find someone that knows something new
and generally techie.

I'm looking at a new water treatment system for my house, and there
seems to be a new kid on the block.

Pelican, Natursoft and FilterSorb seem to be the buzzwords for
this technology.

So far as I can gather from the blurbs and propaganda sheets, the
idea is that the "filter media" provides active sites for CaC03 to
crystalize, taking it out of solution. At intervals, the 1 nm
particles of CaC03 break off the media and flow through pipes, filters,
et al and eventually exit the system via your sewage/septic system.

I assume that eventually these things dissolve and flow back
into the water system, but the claim is that they stay particulate
"forever". If that's true for the length of time water sits in a
water heater, I'll say it's close enough to forever.

Has anyone tried one of these things? Did it work? Any gotchas?

Please reply directly to me, rather than the list, since this is
so far off-topic.

  Thanks,
  Clif
