John mentioned HP's Medial Vault at today's NOVALUG meeting. Haveing
just read the Gizmodo review
(http://gizmodo.com/373711/hp-media-vault-2100-linux-server-reviewed-one-kick+ass-little-penguin), I will go back to the Dlink DNS-323 NAS (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,2091770,00.asp). from an appliance standpoint, this one is outstanding. It also only has two bays. The cool thing is - you fill the bays. And doing so requires NO technical expertise - can you slide a door open??? If so, slide in one or two SATA drives, plug in the network cable (yes it is wired), plug in the power and then turn it on. Management is done via a web browser. I must admit, I cannot recall if you must connect to via a winderz box the first time or not.
The costs for a 1TB NAS appliance??
QTY Item Cost
1 DNS-323 $159.99
2 Western Digital Caviar SE WD5000AAJS $89.99
DNS -> ZipZoomFly -

WD Drives -> Newegg

It is more than the Media Vault but doubles the capacity, does Gigabit
Ethernet, functions as a file.print server. Down side? Does not
function as a toaster - I guess that would be the IPv6 version!

Remember, all Windows machines are, by definition, fault tolerant.
They run Windows don't they!!
