 	Be sure to point out that there are bigger and more 
frequent conventions (Believe it or not!) than the politicals -- 
lots of them.

 	At one time, the Modern Language Association (the whole 
professoriate of English and *all* the foreign languages) used 
to hold a single unified convention -- very useful for the slave 
market -- and had to alternate between Chicago and NYC, because 
no other cities had enough hotel space.

 	That was reputed the biggest of all. But there must be 
lots of them not a whale of a lot smaller; the job markets favor 
such, and not only in academia.
