Good afternoon everyone,

After following the Pentium II conversation here, I wanted to jump in
with a bit of information.

I am part of a recognized 503(c) organization called "Computers for the
Missions". We take donated PCs, clean them up, load Linux on them and
then donate them to worthy causes. In the last year we have set up a
community learning lab in Pocohantas Virginia, sent PCs to a Choctaw
Indian reservation and are in the process of sending some refurbished
laptops to Haiti. We have also been working with S.O.M.E. (So Others
Might Eat) based in D.C. to help set up small labs in their housing
projects.

If anyone is interested in donating equipment we can provide a tax
receipt so that you can deduct the value from your taxes.

In order to make sure we can deliver a long lasting solution, we are
looking for P4 level PCs with at least 256 Meg Ram (512M is
preferable). We can also use memory, decent size hard drives (we will
run DBAN if you haven't), keyboard, mice, networking equipment, etc.

Our current standard load is Ubuntu 8.04/8.10 on PCs, and Xubuntu on the
laptops as they tend to be a bit underpowered compared to current levels.

If anyone has any questions, I can be reached at linuxbodger at gmail.com
or on my cell at 571-235-3564. The Project Coordinator, Denny Baughman
can be reached via email at a4s4evr at comcast.net.
