Hey Nick, what a great idea. There are some free online/downloadable
study guides available. Lots of them are cert-related or narrowly on
various aspects (e.g., networking), but some are more general, e.g.,
Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide (last updated 2008), or The
Linux Users' Guide (older): http://www.tldp.org/guides.html
Getting Started with Linux (caveat: some inflammatory language about
Microsoft): http://www.linux.org/lessons/beginner/index.html
I haven't used any of these -- I had formal UNIX training but am
self-taught on Linux (though it looks like I'll be going for a Red Hat
cert in the next six months).
