There was a fun episode of MythBusters on vodka taste and
specifically if cheap vodka could be converted to quality
vodka with charcoal filtration.

They filtered a cheap vodka six times through a charcoal filter
(I think a Brita water pitcher) sampling it at each stage. To
the panel they added one ultra-high price vodka, resulting in
a total of 8 test samples; cheap vodka, after each filter step,
and expensive vodka.

A staffer set up unlabeled samples and the two hosts and a
guest who was a well known wine/liquor expert tried to id
the samples. Both hosts correctly id'ed the original cheap
stuff, but were all over the place with the filtered and
expensive samples.

The guest expert id'ed each sample correctly placing them
in order cheap, each filter step, then expensive.

Vodkas definitely have tastes.
