I think you should do a default Fedora install, look around and report
how it compares to Ubuntu/Debian.. 

Fedora defaults to installing GNOME by default, but I always install KDE
alongside it and use the apps on an as needed basis.  I think I've been
using a GNOME login manager and GNOME desktop the whole time with KDE
apps running within and having no problems.  I've never, for example,
use KDE login or KDE desktop.. Never had a need.

I for one and very interested in what you think of Fedora.. sounds like
you haven't tried a Fedora/Redhat system in a long time.
