I find that a simple chair fits the bill just fine for me.  (Well, okay, 
maybe not all that simple; we've got some gliding recliners.)  They make 
the PERFECT place for me to sit with my laptop, even for hours on end. 
Might not work for a narrower laptop, without some kind of tray under it 
(which would help with cooling anyway).

This is someone's cue to say they just need a stool... then even the 
floor... then even the ground outside... then someone can try to 
convince us they regularly use their laptop in freefall!
