Sure enough, the tarball had a kernel, which had a file
of drivers -- scads of them!

 	/lib/modules/2.6.21.7/kernel/drivers/ contains folders
named block, cdrom, ide, pcmcia, scsi, and usb. My instinct is to
look first in pcmcia; that had tarballs named yenta_socket.ko.gz
and rsrc_nonstatic.ko.gz -- more tarballs!

It feels like I'm looking for the Maltese Falcon in a
nest of Russian dolls! And I won't know the Falcon when I see it
...
