Yes this is.  I updated all the packages via System Tools -> Software Updater.
I was hoping to install new kernel and kernel files, but that didn't happen, 
that I have been able to tell.

Whatever issue I had with the modules not loading seems to have disappeared
when I got the network int to work.  And after I did the package updates and
rebooted, the network int was still working on startup, meaning I did not have
to start/stop anything.

What tool would you recommend using to go and get an updated kernel and
associated packages?
