I'm relatively new to dealing with laptops so there are lots of things I run

I have a Thinkpad T-30 running Linux. I've been using a wireless
card that plugs into the PCMCIA slot. It works great, but
there's also an internal minipci slot. Recently, I came across a
wireless card that will fit that uses the Atheros chip set. I
figured "Why not?" and installed it.
Now it doesn't boot. Instead, I get a message about an unauthorized network
card.
Whatthehell?
That is a Thinkpad thing. If you put unauthorized hardware into the
internal slots, it may refuse to boot. I remember there are
workarounds, but I never had the problem, so I don't know where to
find them currently. You might start with thinkwiki
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkWiki . There is also a Linux on
Thinkpads mailing list linux-thinkpad at linux-thinkpad.org that might
have some ideas.
