I've used the Kill-A-Watt gadget. This is an inline meter,
plug one end into the wall, and then plug the device you want to
monitor into the Kill-A-Watt.

It gives displays of current voltage, power used, and such.

Using the Kill-A-Watt has been interesting for stuff like watching
the voltage drop on the gas generator when a water pump kicks in, or
the change in power draw on an idle diskless node vs power draw when
doing calculations.

It's available online. Might be available at a Loews or Menards.
