[Novalug] Embarrassing Knoppix Question

Knoppix seems to run better than the others (even its own 
condensed clones, Puppy and DSL) on my friend's saurian laptop.

So I want to try installing it.

How, HOW, do you tell the silly thing to settle down, take up 
residence, and make itself at home on the hard drive??

There has to be a way ...
