[Novalug] Tablet OS?

My local shop, knowing me, pointed out that they now had
a tablet that came with linux -- an ASUS Eee PC running Xandros.
In a weak moment, and not having heard of xandros's deal with the
Gates of Hell, I bought it.

It comes with a 7" screen, about 4 GB of (solid-state!)
hard drive, and 512 MB of memory. But I added a camera-type
memory card with about 4 GB, and a thumb drive that adds 8 GB of
storage.

But despite being linux underneath, xandros is already
too windowed up for me.

It has synaptic (if I can find out how to launch it); but
I'm thinking I might as well go ahead and install some more
congenial OS, rather than re-tailor xandros.

Is there a consensus on what would be good?
