Have one - it's not close to a 'tablet' - simply a very small laptop.  
(Have a ThinkPad X41 Tablet as well - *that* qualifies more as a 
tablet..) ;-)

It's definitely not for the usual Linux user - there are tons of sites 
and pages for putting various distros on the EeePC.

Depends - what distro do you prefer normally?  For me, it's Arch.  There 
are a bunch of people that have had success with the Ubuntu family, and 
various others.

I'd start with http://wiki.eeeuser.com/ and see where that takes you.
