 	Some of your points are beyond me, or irrelevant here; 
but I notice you don't mention Alpine. Alpine 1.0, which has been 
out a while, would have been pine 5.0, but it got so different 
that they renamed it.

 	You get it from UW -- or, since Alpine is under the 
Apache license, you may be able to get it with yum or aptitude or 
the like from your distro's repos.

 	My email ISP is still running pine 4.64; but I've been 
running Alpine on my own machines, against my local ISP, and I 
like it fine.
