No. Some of my posts look to be disappearing. I found a
partition program actually called partlogic 0.69, downloaded it,
and burned a CD.

I finally gave up on partlogic; and my gparted live cd
wouldn't boot. So I burned a second copy of ubuntu
6.06.1-alternate, which unlike the first copy did boot, and tried
to slog my way through installing in text mode, something I had
never tried before.

It hung up on me several times. It wouldn't always take
choices which it offered -- like "back" and "cancel." But the
last two or three times I started over, it seemed to have
repartitioned, with Centos in a 15 GB partition, and two
additional 13 GB partitions.

Finally I got it to a point where it let me tell it to
put ubuntu into the largest stretch of *free* space.

 	It installed it.

Now the blamefool thing boots *only* to ubuntu, and I
can't even find a grub.conf file to edit. Not plain, not in /etc,
not in /boot, afaict.

An unless/until I manage to get it to let me be root,
*without* typing sudo every gd time, I *still* find it terminally
irritating. Ditto synaptic. Even the desktop graphics grate on
me.

If this blasted thing has blown away the CentOS I had
finally gotten usably set up, I'm going to take all my kumbaya --
excuse me, ubuntu -- media to the firing range ....
