Jay, I have not had much luck with distribution packaged drivers.
I would grab the driver directly from nvidia, reboot into single
user mode or init 3 and install the driver, then reboot. Xorg
configuration can be difficult. I would start with an untouched
xorg.conf, if you have one, and just start with the fewest flags
you need to get a working xorg, then you can tweak it.
