Follow up to below:

Think I figured this out, but if so, I'm am really confused/pissed.

I think that during the nvidia driver install, the installer must install a
new kernel.

Looking at /boot, I figure that the install missed adding a file.

I have an entry

initrd -> initrd-2.6.22.13-0.3-bigsmp  (sym link)

BUT

I do not have an initrd-2.6.22.13-0.3-bigsmp file, and therefore can't boot.

Two of my menu.lst entries point to kernel version files 2.6.22.5-2.bigsmp
and these files don't exist in the /boot dir anymore.

I basically don't have the files I need to boot this box.

How do I recover from this? Would it be as simple as copying over the
2.6.22.13 kernel file?
