[Novalug] Problems updating/patching kernel in OpenSuse

While researching my problem of why my grub files and kernel files were
fubarred, I've run across a number of instances where other people running
OpenSuse have had a similar experience to mine.

I thought I would post this to the list, for those of you running OpenSuse,
you might want to take a few more precautions prior to installing new kernels
or kernel patches.
