One thing you should install is the yum-fastestmirror package.  This is 
a small package that does timing tests against the Fedora mirror list. 
Of course, this isn't perfect as the mirror with the lowest ping or 
whatever it uses, doesn't mean it's the fastest with downloading.

In recent times, I've found mirror.cogentco.com to be the best.  If 
fastestmirror doesn't seem to work well, try adding it as a baseurl in 
the fedora.repo and fedora-updates.repo files.
