Does that mean you will have this machine in a colo or in your house and

I use Ubuntu now and have use debian based distros since 1999 because I
like the packaging better. I don't have to worry about dependencies or
breaking something when I upgrade a package-- the packaging system is
smart and won't break itself (well, in theory and I have only broken a
system 1x [Xwindows]).

Remember that Ubuntu Server is suppose to be lean and have only what you
need (no X!) although you can install anything you want.
