[Novalug] Fedora 6 - yum (not) update

I've got a F6 system that I decided to bring up to current.

No real reason, just seemed like a good idea at the time.

The "yum update" fails with this error:

Transaction Check Error:   file /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i386-linux-thread-multi/Sys/Syslog.pm from install of perl-5.8.8-12 conflicts with file from package perl-Sys-Syslog-0.18-1
  file /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto/Sys/Syslog/Syslog.so from install of perl-5.8.8-12 conflicts with file from package perl-Sys-Syslog-0.18-1

Obviously, something I've got is incompatible with something it wants to
get.  I don't think these are features I'm using (but it can be hard to tell
what's called from something called from something called from a monthly
cron entry).

Anyone got a suggestion for how to break the block?  Update something
first?  Delete a package then reinstall?
