[Novalug] Tech Sessions @ Red Hat Tysons

Hey guys,

After a week of asking (s/asking/pestering) my management, I have
approval to invite y'all over for some tech sessions here at the Red Hat
office in Tysons Corner. Jay Hart called me and asked about a potential
"group buy" of Red Hat training -- I'm checking into that now. Initial
reactions seem promising for those that may be interested in getting a
RHCT or RHCE. I'll start a separate thread on this.

Roughly 15-20 people have EMailed me, on and off list, about
attending a tech session. Requests ranged from entry-level meetings to
deep dives, with a good amount (at least 20-25%) of people offering to
teach. Specific topic requests ranged from having a linux install fest
to time spent on how to configure GFS in a trans-national disaster
recovery setup. As time moves on I'd like to see those topics, and
everything in between, covered.

Red Hat has 2 training rooms and a large conference room. The
training rooms hold roughly 20, and the conference room holds about 30.
Depending on the nature of the meeting we can use either room, or
perhaps both. This would allow us to run two sessions at once.

    My initial goals:
1) Keep the Red Hat sales guys away.
2) Have members of NoVA LUG come out, have Red Hat get involved with
the Community.
3) Tech sessions **do not** have to be RHEL/Fedora focused. But I
won't complain if they are ;)
4) Red Hat pays for food.

    So, some action items:
1) Send in topic ideas -- stuff you want to learn, stuff you're willing
to share, stuff you want to do. I'm personally interested in
"Installing MySQL Redhat's Way and Your Way" from Jeff Stoner. I also
want to play more with AppArmor and see how it compares against SELinux.
2) Decide on a date. Saturdays work best for me, and we should start
before noon -- otherwise I have to play doorman and manually let
everyone in ;)

A couple of the other Architects have expressed interest in talking
with the community. Technically this would be a "Red Hat sponsored
event," so getting some of Red Hat's top-shelf guys should be fairly
easy. Karl MacMillans' desk is next to mine, for example. I also sit
next to a former lead of the FBI Forensics Lab, and he'd love to come in
and talk.

So -- send in ideas, lets settle on a date, and lets make this
happen. Remember that the original cause of this was an all-day install
fest/best practices setup, but I'd like to spend the day doing whatever
the LUG wants more.
