Hope I am not too late to chime in! I'm an admin for a small aviation
technical society -- Win2k server and XP Pro. Our server (PII 400, 128mb, no
I am not kidding) is in dire need of an upgrade. But we have a limited
budget, and I'd like to spend more $$ on server hardware and desktop
software for my colleagues than on 2k3 or SBS plus a bunch of CALs.
Especially when all the machine really does is AD, file server, Backup Exec,
virus scan and help desk.

So I'd be really interested in the pros and cons of replacing Win2k with a
Linux server. I dabble in Linux in my spare time, but don't know much about
it, so topics dealing with Windows desktops in a Linux server environment,
authentication to network and shares, remote access, network monitoring,
help desk software, and so forth would be of particular interest.

Sorry if that is too basic, but those are definitely my two cents! Thanks

Randy
