[Novalug] Actual memory usage

I'm in the middle of some deadlines and don't have much time to do research,
so if anyone can help me out in the meantime, I'd appreciate it.

That being said, what is the best way to show "live" memory utilization.
Meaning active memory utilization and not simply what is occupying memory.
My understanding is that Linux will keep everything in memory even for
extinct process and just mark the memory as available. So it's occupied but
just not active.

Hope that makes sense.

Oh -- does this concept translate to Unix/Solaris as well? And is there an
equivalent way to get these metrics on Solaris? (I know slightly off topic
since were a LUG)

Thanks tons.
