As far as "removal" goes here is an interesting problem.
  The package:          is a dependent of:
     avahi-daemon  -      *-desktop,
                 plus a number of other packages such as rhythmbox.

 *-desktop depending on which desktop-group you installed is the
"upgrade" controller package.
