It's hard to tell what's happening. When the fool thing
boots at all, it boots XP; and whenever it does anything, its
imitation of cold molasses is so convincing I can never be sure
when it's hung, when it's still churning, and when it's waiting
-- even if I see anything on the screen.

It doesn't *seem* to be able to see my Puppy CD at all.

I have one machine downloading Knoppix, and another
downloading Ubuntu 6.10; I'll burn the CDs, and try them.

It doesn't help that everything else is so slow. Somebody
saw a news item saying two or three undersea cables had gotten
cut, probably by ship anchors, between Italy and North Africa,
and between India and somewhere. And of course all the traffic
is being re-routed all over the world ....
