 	You don't say which linux -- and it might matter. Fedora 
9 has a known bug which sometimes, for instance, prevents me from 
mounting an *internal* CD/DVD drive.

 	I don't understand that, but the machine's reaction looks 
almost like some of its other reactions to other normal things 
I've always done. So I'm guessing it is, or is close kin to, the 
same bug :
