[Novalug] OT: included Bluetooth adapters, reusable?

Question for the list, although admittedly not Linux-specific:

Bluetooth peripherals, such as mice and keyboards, often come with a 
USB-based Bluetooth adapter.  Generally speaking, are these adapters 
good ONLY for use with that particular device, or can they be reused 
with others?

(And if they can be reused, does anyone have one they want to get rid 
of, to sync my cellphone with my PC?)
