[Novalug] Puzzled

Running OpenSUSE 10.3 on a 64-bit machine.

I'm having some puzzling behavior involving k3b to write data CDs.

First I ran into a problem on the verification step. After writing the CD, k3b
opens the drive and then reloads for the verification step. A dialog box came
up asking what to do with the disk. At the same time, k3b was trying to mount
it for verification. The two processes stepped on each other and k3b reported
an error - couldn't find anything to verify.

OK, so I put in the data disk and clicked "do nothing" and the little box that
tells the system to do this always. Now k3b works, but how do I mount a data
CD in the future?

Here's where it gets puzzling. If I stick in the CD, I hear the drive start
up, but nothing appears on the screen. If I look at /media, the disk shows up
as a directory and the files are available.

Now, when I hit the eject button, the crash handler dialog comes up telling me
kded has crashed. The second time I hit the button, the disk ejects without
an error and the directory disappears from /media.

So I've got a workaround, but it's a bit inelegant. Any suggestions?
