Your setup is very similar to mine, except that I did overwrite my windows
MBR.  /dev/hda1 is the correct boot device.  Add this to /boot/grub/menu.lst
and you will have the option of booting windows:

 title Windows
    rootnoverify (hd0,0)
    chainloader (hd0,0)+1

But you will need to install grub onto your MBR first. Try booting your
linux partition with the help of a rescue CD, and then run grub-install /dev/hda
